Church Ministry

March 19, 1988 Ben was ordained into the ministry at Calvary Tabernacle Church, 1802 Orange Avenue. The ordaining committee was composed of Senior Trustee and Assistant Pastor of Calvary Tabernacle for 34 years, Rev. Oscar Pugh. Other members of the committee were Senior Pastors Allen Gallimore of Oak Hill Tabernacle and Elmo Alderman of Jumping Branch Tabernacle. Ovilla Pugh served as Secretary.

Ben’s responsibilities included preaching/teaching three times each week as Pastor and five times each week on “The Voice of Calvary” daily radio broadcast.

Under Ben’s leadership Calvary Tabernacle relocated from downtown Roanoke to a ten acre location in Botetourt County. The church grew in attendance and discipled many for Christ in the twenty-two years of ministry.

In 2008, the church building was sold to a new congregation and Ben spent the next two years in preparation for his next assignment from our Heavenly Father. It was during this period that former members begin encouraging Ben to begin a Bible Study group. Finally, on February 7, 2010, Ben felt clearance from the Lord to reestablish Calvary Tabernacle as a Sunday Morning Bible Study in His home.

BEGINNING SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 2010 we will begin having services in the Chapel at Family Choice, 4922 Valley View Blvd, across from Lifeway Christian Bookstore. Service will begin at 11 and will focus on teaching The Word. Preliminaries will include various genre of music and special prayer time. We will be unable to provide childcare due to the limited space.

  1. Hi, Rev. Peyton
I listen to your early morning sermon each day. I am interested in your new gathering on Nov.7 to study the Bible. I am a born again Christian and am looking for a Bible believing, Jesus loving Church that teaches the Trinity, God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and that Jesus Christ is the three in One… God, The Great I am.
I enjoy your Fox Station but Your Preaching of God’s Holy Word has especially been very powerful and moving and I would like to learn more of what you have to teach of God’s Holy Bible. Thank-you for uplifting Jesus Christ… our Saviour.
    Warmest regards,
    Patsy Arrington Dorsett

Studying the word together under your leadership has been both replenishing and refreshing. It has given me the freedom to think, analyze and verbalize without fear of condemnation. When you are able to set back and look at the scriptures in prospective of the “whole story” — who, what, geographic, historical and cultural specifics of the writing — it gives a better perspective of revealing God’s love and his design for our daily lives. The whole aspect of our studies has been one of being able to worship and focus on Christ in the unity of believers.

    Hello brother,

I will be praying for you as you start this new gathering. Preach the word and love the people. I know you will. I would encourage others that are not connected to a church family to check Ben out.
Praying for you brother and love you.
    In Christ’s Love and Service
    Pastor Randy
